Whoa!

The counter reset on my camera today! It took me a minute to figure out why the photos in today's folder were in an odd order - it's because the earlier ones are numbered close to 9999, and the later ones close to 0001. So. That means I've taken 10,000 pictures in the last year and nine months. Well, here's to new beginnings!

My last night in the Lone Star State.

Greetings from South Carolina!

I'm back, with a vengeance! I ended up taking a longer break from the blog than I anticipated, but it's been a crazy couple of weeks.

This week I'm on the Isle of Palms, in South Carolina, with a friend, A, and her parents. It's a barrier island just outside of Charleston, and beautiful. The best part is that there are virtually no tourists here this time of year! Pictures from the week here will all end up in a gallery on zenfolio.

On Saturday I drove to Nashville with the dog. A and I missed the one-hour time slot on Sunday morning to drop the dog at the kennel, so we spent the day cooking and then having a private lesson in an empty Vanderbilt parking lot on driving a standard. There were some more spectacular and drawn-out stalls than I have ever seen in my life, and then suddenly A got it and was able to drive us home, through stop signs and up hills, with no problem. We packed up the car, dropped the dog off during the kennel's one-hour afternoon window, and hit the road. We made it to the condo here around 2:30am (unfortunately, we lost an hour heading east).

We spent most of Monday in Charleston, having a delicious lunch at a Greek restaurant, shopping, and then just wandering. We went into this beautiful Roman Catholic church--the Cathedral of St John the Baptist--just as the sun was starting to set. It was (re)built on the original foundation in the early 1900s, 50 years after a fire destroyed the original cathedral. The lights were off inside, and the stained-glass windows were virtually glowing.

We then headed down to the harbor and caught the tail end of the sunset.

Dusk in Colorado

The colors after sunset tonight really blew me away. When I crouched down for the photo, this stalk of prairie grass caught my eye too, so I tried him in a couple photos. I liked this one best for that feeling of night closing in. The mountains are only just visible in the slight purple jaggedness of the horizon.
