Poladroids

The other day I heard about the Poladroid application and couldn't resist giving it a try. I had a pretty good time dropping photos in and watching the polaroids develop on my desktop. Here are a few photos that have appeared on the blog before:

The title image (a bug and some flowers in Eichstätt, Germany), and the pilot from July 12th.

The fish in an Astoria fish market from July 25th, and the church from just the other day. Actually, I really like the way Poladroid cropped the church picture. I'm thinking I should have cropped it the same.

And here are a couple that have not appeared before:

Shannon and me on the traditional Marshallese canoe, and a half-developed self-portrait aboard the USS Missouri. You can save copies of the poladroids at any point while they're developing just by clicking on them.

Update: Hmm.. the first time around I didn't label this post with the categories appropriate to each picture. I should probably do that. Otherwise, this lovely photo of Shannon and myself will not show up when you look at the 'Marshall Islands' posts :P Fixing it right now.. that's a lot of categories.

Waiting

I flew to Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands, on August 5th (arriving on August 6th, with no sunset in between!) to visit a friend who's teaching with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. I stayed there for a week.

Seven degrees above the equator, the Marshalls are a group of atolls of long, skinny coral islands ringing the craters of underwater volcanoes. Although the country calls itself "Pearls of the Pacific," I think Shannon's assertion that the atolls look like rubber bands flung into the middle of the ocean is more accurate.

Here's a map from the Marshall Islands Visitor Authority:
