H is for Hungry fish.
Last Wednesday my sister, two cousins and I went on a short snorkeling tour over a piece of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System. It's the second largest coral reef system in the world (after, of course, the Great Barrier Reef), and it stretches from Mexico all the way down to Honduras [another H word :)].
Our tour guide carried around a bottle of fish food so the fish would follow us, and he kept diving down to turn over rocks/pieces of coral.
This doesn't strike me as very ecologically responsible, but, well, he did it anyway. He put this very cool starfish on my cousin, and it crawled (do starfish crawl?) down her arm before plopping back into the water. (You can see him larger if you click on the photo.)
After snorkeling, we went Horseback riding. I can't believe they let us go in our swimsuits and flip flops! I guess as long as they get your money they just don't care. We had fun though.
After riding on a trail for 45 minutes or so, they took us back to the beach, and we each rode into the water bareback on a horse (they did everyone individually, not all together).
I realize that horses can swim, but these horses really didn't seem excited about doing so with a human on their backs. We all felt bad afterwards and agreed that we would not do that again.

What excellent photos. They are so beautiful! I tried to take photos from a glassbottom boat in the Great Barrier Reef, but I couldn't take such beautiful photos like your first one. Thank you so much for all your comments. I wish I could read all your posts today, but at the moment I am very busy and I am glad I scheduled my posts a few weeks ahead.
Great photos! I thought the first pic was an aquarium...so beautiful.
Wonderful photos! I've never been snorkeling so I totally amazed. ;-)
Those fishy pictures are wonderful - and the look on your cousin's face is, too!
I'm envious of your horse ride. It looks comfortable and cool .. though it's a shame the horses didn't enjoy their paddle.
Geez...just realized I don't know your name...
BUT, thanks for the nice comment in my blog in regards to my underwater photography. You are right, it is not easy...most people don't realize how difficult it is to capture good photographs underwater...dealing with currents, surge, bad visibility and uncooperative models makes it all the more difficult.
Having said that, your shots are very good considering you are snorkeling and using a point and shoot...good job!
By the way, I love Cancun....you have brought back great memories...
Cheers,
Scotty
Beautiful photos - looks like it was so enjoyable.
Wil, thanks! I think it helped to actually be under the water with the camera, so I could turn it in any direction I wanted. Scheduling your posts ahead is so clever, I will have to try that sometime!
Carol, what a nice compliment! Aquarium displays are always so pretty :)
Your EG TG, you really should go if you ever get the chance! It's so easy and rewarding - after a couple minutes of practice so you learn how not to suck water up your snorkel ;P
Jay, I was happy with that face too when I saw the photos after :) Our ride was nice and comfortable at the time, but I was a bit sore in awkward places the next day. I think I could have used some jeans and a pair of boots!
Scotty, I'm truly flattered by the compliment. I'll continue to be amazed by your underwater photography skills.
Tumblewords, thank you :) We really did have a fabulous time all day that day.
Wonderful photos! Especially of the fish! Looks like you had a memorable day!
Those photos of the fish are great! Beautiful colours.
You were not exactly dressed for riding no. Did your... uhm... posterior not hurt? Or your legs?
Oh, and you asked how old our Holle is now. I have to admit that I'm not great with numbers, nor birthdays, but she is 6 or 7 now. I think. I will stand in a corner now and be ashamed of myself.
hehe, Karyn, thank you. Quite memorable.. isn't it funny how we need photos to remember the memorable days? ;P
Oh, Carolina, you have no idea how much my posterior and legs hurt the next day. Actually, you probably do. Oddly enough, while I was actually riding I wasn't in much pain. Except for my ankles, from the stirrups. I really wanted some boots.
