After MUCH longing, I have finally bought myself a DSLR: the Canon 40d. I don't actually know enough about aperture, etc, to take it out of the most basic modes yet. But I couldn't learn how to use the camera if I didn't have one, could I?! ;)
Be prepared for many experiments in the near future as I learn how to use this lovely thing properly.

I've lately longed for a better camera, because I seem to take more and more photos. Good luck with yours and I'll be waiting to see the great photos coming from it!
Thanks, Mara :) That was exactly how I felt and why I ended up buying one. I just take so many photos that I really found myself wanting some more features on my camera.. of course, now I have to learn to use those features! ;)
Ooooh, you'll love it! We have an early version of the same camera, I think - it's the one that was called the 'Rebel' in the US. It's a wonderful piece of equipment.
Just lately it's been a little heavy for me to carry around much, so OH has bought me a bridge camera (a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28) and I love that too. It has it's limitations, of course, but it takes stunning pictures for its size.
Jay, I can definitely see how this would get too heavy to carry around all the time. I do feel like it will be my 'serious' camera, that I only take out with me when I know I'm going to take a lot of photos. That's a big advantage of my compact - I keep it in my purse all the time, so I always have it when a photo opportunity arises. It's so tiny and light that I don't even notice it in there. Also it's much less conspicuous for random, strange shots out in public ;)
